HL7 is a set of standards for exchanging health information electronically. HL7 format is a data format that is used for exchanging medical information between multiple and different computer systems and the format is based on the Standard Generalized Markup Language (SGML), and it includes a series of tags that indicates the meaning of the data. The tags are used to identify the various parts of the message, and they also specify how the data should be formatted and the HL7 format is also used by a variety of software applications, including electronic health records (EHRs), hospital management systems, and laboratory information systems.
