HL7 is an internationally adopted set of standards that defines how healthcare information is exchanged between systems. These standards dictate the format and definitions of health data. The HL7 standards can be split into two categories; Version 2 (v2) and Version 3 (v3). In real-world operations, HL7 version 2. x versions are more widely implemented compared to the newer HL7v3.
